Call for Proposals Update

United Way Ottawa is committed to making change happen in our community by working with, and investing in, our priority goal partners through the Community Fund.  In the fall of 2010 and 2011, United Way Ottawa invited submissions from eligible social service agencies through an open Call for Proposals (CFP) process to support the Priority Goals under three Focus Areas: Growing Up Great, Belonging to Community and Turning Lives Around as well as for the cross-cutting Priority Goal for Agency Capacity Building.

The Call for Proposals process over the past two years committed more than 96% of Community Fund investments in two and three year funding agreements with priority goal partners.  As a result, there will not be a Call for Proposals process in the fall of 2012.  The Community Services Cabinet will be reviewing the timing for the next Call for Proposals, which will be communicated in 2013.

If you have any questions or for further information, please email agencyinfo@unitedwayottawa.ca.

In 2011, United Way launched new investment priorities targeting three focus areas Growing Up Great, Belonging to Community and Turning Lives Around as well as the foundational work of Agency Capacity Building.

UNITED WAY OTTAWA SMALL PROJECT FUND FOR FURNITURE DISTRIBUTION IN THE HOMELESSNESS/HOUSING SECTOR

In December 2012, United Way Ottawa disbursed a United Way Worldwide grant on behalf of the generosity of the GE Foundation aimed providing access to furniture for programs or projects that help the homeless to move into permanent housing.

Aligned with its priority goal of helping to get homeless people off the streets and turn their lives around, United Way Ottawa solicited proposals through an Expression of Interest from not-for-profit organizations in Ottawa. Small capital or one-time projects for advancing an organization’s ability to provide furniture for housing programs and projects for the homeless were awarded funding.

Deadline for the submission was Friday October 19.

United Way Ottawa is pleased to announce the following grants have been awarded:

  • The Elizabeth Fry Society of Ottawa has been awarded $5,000 to provide start-up assistance to clients who have no furniture.  The Society will be able to cover moving costs as it furnishes and outfits apartments of women whom it has helped to secure stable housing.
  • The First Unitarian Congregation of Canada has been awarded $2,245 for its Aboriginal Women's Shelter Project. The grant will help cover storage costs for donated furniture and appliances that are then delivered to women moving to their own accommodation in Ottawa from Oshki Kizis, the Aboriginal women’s shelter operated by Minwaashin Aboriginal Women’s Support Centre.
  • Matthew House has been awarded $12,433 to help its Furniture Bank expand capacity to meet current and anticipated demand by helping to cover the operating cost of an additional vehicle, including driver's and helpers salary, fuel, insurance, and support costs.
